If your building looks dirty and needs a touch-up, you can potentially do pressure washing at almost any time of year. However, not all times of year are optimal. Unless you have a serious need to clean right now, it’s often better to wait until a good time to do the pressure washing. The right timing can help make the job easier, cheaper, or longer lasting.
The Best Seasons for Pressure Washing
Let’s start from the bottom of the list because this one’s easy.
I. Winter
Winter is a terrible time to pressure wash because the cold weather will interfere with the process and could lead to your walls or other surfaces freezing up before they dry. Worse, if the water makes its way into cracks in the walls or concrete, it could cause those cracks to widen when the water freezes inside. If it’s cold enough, you might even damage your sprayer – and that means expensive pressure washer repair services.
There is rarely, if ever, a good reason to pressure wash in the winter.
II. Autumn
You can do pressure-washing in the Fall, but it’s probably not the best time. With so much junk in the air, falling leaves, etc, it’s easy for a pressure washing job to be undone very quickly. Your walls could end up dirty again a month later.
The main benefit here is that if you’re looking to hire pressure-washing services, fall is usually a slow season. So, it might be easier to schedule the work as the company will not be as backed up with work. Plus, if the exterior is filthy, it’s probably better to get that gunk off before winter hits, even if you have to redo the job in the spring.
III. Spring
Spring can be an excellent time for pressure-washing, with a couple of caveats. The mild weather will make a difficult job a bit easier, and rising temperatures mean that surfaces will be able to dry off fairly quickly. It’s also a great way to knock off any accumulated grime from last Fall/Winter and start your year off with a great-looking building.
However, there is a similar issue to Fall, where there’s potentially a lot of junk in the air, especially pollen from blooming plants. Plus, there are a lot of storms, so check the weather before washing.
IV. Summer
In many ways, Summer is the best overall time for pressure washing. The high temperatures, generally low winds, and lack of rainfall will all help the pressure-washing work effectively, and last for a long time. Not to mention having longer days for doing difficult jobs.
However, the high temperatures can be a threat to anyone doing the washing, so be sure to stay safe in the sun. Also, this is typically the busiest season for pressure-washing services, so you may end up paying extra if you hire the work out.
